19Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
–MATTHEW 6.19-21
This Jesus’ teaching serves me to remember that anything and everything that I can either see or touch will never be the source of my genuine and permanent joy and peace. The material world has been designed to undergo transformation, change, construction and destruction. The only permanent aspect of the material world is its inconsistency.
Every time I look for things outside of myself to experience satisfaction, what inevitable follows is dissatisfaction. I may get the money, the boy, the girl, the house, the car, the trip, the stuff but short after my accomplishment, discontentment will support me in recognizing that the only Real –with capital R- thing that I’m always craving for is Love. To me God and Love are synonymous. So, I need and want more of God (Love) because God (Love) nurtures and enlivens my soul.
Nothing and no one can take away from me what is mine in spirit. Even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, when things really do not look and feel the way I want them to be, my spiritual treasures anchor me and offer me the guidance, tools and energy to keep on keeping on with what is. And I always find God (Love) if I allow myself to remain present in the now.
Whatever I choose to make god will be my god. If I make substances, things, people, places and circumstances my deities, they will rule my life. That’s why I live diligently, favoring the One and Only God (Love). How is it that I know that I’m serving the One and Only God instead of a mock? To me, God is beneficial, life supportive, pure and absolute love. Holding in my mind and heart this brief definition I strive to choose God over appearances.

Sacred Text may be a wonderful source of wisdom, love, kindness and compassion. When I go over them, I always ask myself the question “how do these teachings relate to my 21 century life?” With and open heart and a open mind, I get a few great answers. And tranquility flourish in my innermost. I honor and celebrate those sacred teachings of the Holy Texts that make my life more enjoyable and whole.
May Peace be with you always.
Sweet blessings!!!
